Common questions
What is an apostille?
An apostille is a certificate issued by a state Secretary of State (or by the U.S. Department of State for federal documents) that verifies a public document so it can be accepted in another country that belongs to the Hague Apostille Convention.
What if my destination country doesn’t accept apostilles?
Countries outside the Hague Convention require embassy or consulate legalization instead. It involves additional steps, and we coordinate the full process for you.
Does my document need to be notarized first?
It depends on the document. Vital records usually need a recent certified copy from the issuing agency, while documents like powers of attorney and affidavits must be notarized before they can be apostilled. We’ll tell you exactly what’s needed, and notarization is available.
Do I need a translation, and does it come before or after the apostille?
Many destination countries require a certified translation, and the order (translating the document, the apostille, or both) depends on where it’s going. We confirm the right sequence for your case before we begin.
How long does it take?
Timing depends on the issuing state, the type of document and the destination. Your quote includes an estimated timeline, plus expedited options when they’re available.
Do you work with documents from my state?
Yes. We serve clients nationwide, and documents can be sent to us by mail or courier.
Which languages do you translate?
Spanish and English are handled in-house by our bilingual team. Many other languages are available through our network of professional translators; just list the language pair in your quote request.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the number of documents, the issuing state, the destination country, translation needs and shipping. Send a quote request and we’ll reply with a clear price before any work begins.
